Swimming Pool Movement Joints

Movement joints within the tiled tank of swimming pools are generally left to the expert pool installers. We do not have any products that are suitable for use within the actual swimming pool itself. These joints are normally formed using specialist epoxy compounds supplied by specialist providers such as Adshead Ratcliffe Ltd*.

These compounds do not need to be supported by metal profiles as for normal surface movement joints. It is very unlikely that they will be placed under the same levels of impact stress as, for example, joints positioned with a loading bay or motor service area.

The tiled surrounds of the swimming pool do require movement joints. These are fixed following the same guidelines as any other tiled area with the extra provision of ensuring that a specific grade of stainless steel be used wherever they are likely to be in contact with pool water.  The required grade of steel is V4a or grade 316.

Other areas can use the standard grade of stainless steel. V2a or grade 304. Our infill material is suitable for use within these areas.

The use of aluminium or PVC based products would not be recommended as the chemicals used within the swimming pool environment could attack these materials.
