Leeds Railway station is the mainline railway station serving the city centre of Leeds, in fact it is the fourth busiest railway station in the UK outside London.

Dural worked in conjunction with Northern Star flooring to renovate a section of floor within the new south entrance concourse. Northern Star Flooring is an experienced resin floor contractor based in the North of England. The first phase began in 2018 and the project involved the redevelopment and modernisation of the main southern concourse. The plans also included a new roof and stunning glazed facade in addition to more floor space. The flooring specified will be used by the station’s 100,000 daily users. Dural has been integral in offering technical advice on how to install their coloured movement joints for this huge expanse of floor.

This product is a 22mm stainless steel coloured movement joint. Epoxy resin flooring does have some tolerance for movement, however to avoid cracking and delamination of an epoxy resin screed floor, Movement Joints need to be included. When considering such a large expanse of tile it is important to use both Movement Joints and Perimeter Joints. Hard flooring expands and contracts, a Movement Joint prevents the floor from cracking.Movement Joint profiles can cope with heavy stresses and distribute them evenly between the foundation and floor covering. They protect hard floor coverings from the stresses that cause cracking and tenting.

For an impressive finish, coloured movement joints were specified. The floor needed to blend seamlessly in order to give the project a high end finish necessary for such an impressive project. Coloured Movement Joints are available in any RAL colour and for this project Dural matched them to the resin floor colour. They are often used in public spaces because of their durability. Their ability to handle a wide range of loadings and constant footfall in this instance is imperative.Dural stainless steel Movement Joints are made from a combination of highly durable stainless steel expansion carrier profile and full compressive EPDM inlay which are perfect for surfaces which are subject to this immense and constant footfall.

All CMJ - Coloured Movement Joints are designed and manufactured to exceed the requirements of BS 5385 and can also be used with other hard flooring such as Slate, Natural Stone and Ceramic tiled floors. Dural also provides highly competent advice and support for any resin or tiling project. No matter how complex the application they can provide the perfect solution, including both products and service.
